I want you to sit back and ask yourself,
“What is the first step in acceptance?”
Most of us may say that it’s a realization. In actuality, that is one of the last steps in the cycle of acceptance. The first step in acceptance is… (drum rolls) denial. Let’s bring this first step home with an example.
Here is my question:
Has someone ever told you an attribute, or attributes, about yourself that you did not believe until you saw it for yourself?
My cousin told me I had anger issues at a young age. It was because my dad left and I was trying to deal with it. Of course, I told him I didn’t have an anger problem. It was not until I sat one day in my room and cried about him leaving me that I really saw that I did have an anger problem that stemmed from my experience. I denied it for years. I was almost in the stages of manhood when I finally took heed.
Denial is a declaration of the untrue, or in this case, what we say or believe to be untrue. Denial, in a sense, could sometimes simply be running from the truth.
So I ask you…
What are you denying right now?
What are you running from?
What are you trying to hide from yourself?
I challenge you to ponder over this, write these things down and face them.
